This ads somehow attracts me emotionally. It's not because of the image of a girl getting vaccinated, but because of the text written on it.
"Like us on Facebook, and we will vaccinate zero children against polio."
I know they didn't mean it. However, I feel like I'm useless to the community which instead of helping them, I'm disqualifying the children potential to be given vaccinated. This message is completely outstanding on this ads. It's bold, blue-coloured that can be a symbolism of peace but it can be a connotation of an profound sadness to the fact that "Likes" are dominant to Money. Indeed, charities need money to achieve their goals, but they cannot work without public attention and contribution. Besides, donative cost from different countries should be presented in different amounts. In Europe, 4 EUR is not substantial but is sufficient. Let say the fund raiser locates in Vietnam. 4 EUR is the same as 120k VND and that is a huge amount of money compared to how much we earn each day. I can say that 120k VND can be used to buy 6 cups of Bubble Tea meanwhile 4 EUR is worth a cup of Bubble Tea in Europe. That huge gap between Vietnamese society and European society makes us less potential to help donate to the charity. That's why the only one thing we poor people can do is that to "Like" and "Share" the ads. Yet, it's just a minor circumstance, because 120k VND is WORTH it! 120k VND can save lives of 12 children. A small contribution can cause a dramatic impact on the society if we stand together and enhance our society and the world. Moreover, what I like about the picture on the ads is that UNICEF targets to a specific audience which in this case is children. Children need vaccination as to help support their life and immune some deadly diseases. Children who lack of access to health services are prioritized.
In overall, social media is used as a tool to bring the message to the society. However, different people will view the message differently and they either help or "like" the post. It's not a big problem to like a post, but it is when people are lazy of "getting their cards out and donating some money". Our disregard to the community is the reason for why this ad was made. #MoneySavesLives
