#HashTag or #HashDont

Hello, my little ones, it's Moi again

Lezberealz, we've all watch at least on Ice bucket challenge, if not participated in the trend. Whether it was Obama's, Justin Bieber's, or a compilation of all your favbabe celebrities; we are all guilty as charged.  But, did it actually do what it was meant to do?

Well, we all know that the ice-bucket challenge was for ALS, but there were some differences in rules. Some say to do it you got to donate, others if you get nominated you have 24 hours to do it and then you donate. However way you chose to play the game, the core focus of it was to raise awareness and fundraise money for ALS.

The questions the icebucket challenge arises come in two pieces.
1. Was it effective in accomplishing the goal of raising awareness and fundraising about ALS
2. Did people participate for trend or for the cause?

As for Questiono Numbero Uno, well how many of us have actually heard of the ice bucket challenge, and as a result of interest, think of all the people around the world that either donated money or chose to at least look up what ALS is?

As Maggie Lin mentioned in her timeline: "August 21st, 2014: With an increase of 7775% from the beginning of the challenge, over 2,500,000 visitors visited the ALSA.org website (reached the peak) and 11% of them donated, making the total amount of donations more than $70.2M dollars."

So lets all take a moment to say:

because that ain't no little amount of money we are talking about. So A+ for effectiveness.

But what about the intentions for participating. As we see only 11% donated, I mean  A LOT of dolla bills were collected but we can easily see more people donated than participated. It may have been effective in raising awareness and fundraising, but we can never really determine the intention of the people who participated.

Like duh, in every group there are those who have the right intention, but let's think about all y'all who did it because it was POPULAR AF. Yup me too, gurlfriend.

 #TBT

So the ice bucket challenge may have been capable of collected plenty of dollars and public awareness #Activism, but are all Hashtags really that successful is there #Slacktivism?

GURLLLLLLLL. If you thought that the ice bucket challenge was big and bad, then wait  till you hear about #Lovewins, cuz that went way big way fast.

One night we were all sleeping in bed dreaming about life, and the morning we woke up and BANG!! Like every friend of yours on facebook had this as the profile pic.
I mean at first I was like "oooooo, was dis?"

Then, like as 0.2 seconds more of having access to the lovely internet we all found out that America has finally legalized gay marriage. So pretty much we were all like...

Sorry to all the Americans who thought that they can move to Canada, now that gay marriage is legal in the US and they are not about this life. -.-

As Charles stated in his timeline:

On June 26th, 2015, the United States Supreme Court declared the legalization of same-sex marriage in the U.S.  Eventually, love wins.
Congratulations US, it took you awhile. A loooooooooooong while.

As they say, the people get what they want, and in the US this was it. As a country who associates themselves greatly with the word "Freedom," then it only made sense for there to be freedom in people's decisions about love and marriage. I personally, find marriage a very precious thing, and others do too. For some, the only thing they wanted was the opportunity to be equal and to marry their love whether it be a man or a woman. People are thankful for this opportunity and Obama himself is very proud of this achievement.

Yet, was this hashtag necessary. Was #LoveWins really activism or slacktivism.

I mean, who wasn't involved. All you saw anywhere for the like the next week was rainbows. Rainbows everywhere. People didn't play as big as a role as they did in Ireland, but it was the people who brought this to the attention of the government.

Once again, a very successful campaign. But, you must be thinking: There are those that weren't so successful, right queen?

Well, that's debatable my little peasants.

One of the biggest internet Hashtags you see is #BlackLivesMatter.
In the United States of Amurica, this hashtag is huge. How many stories have we seen on the news of incidents where racism still occurred, or how police mistreated a dark skinned man or other situations of this like. I mean there is even a website about it.

But you see, in my buddy JuJubes timeline we see how this hashtag evolved and how it's portrayed today.

Thinking to yourself, what do you see this as? Another political shenanigan or a real-life crisis?

All lives do matter, and by far this campaign is associated with the strongest of people that are willing to loose everything they have including their lives to make a change. This is 100% Activism, because it's not for his advantage or hers, once again not everyone's intention may be pure, but the intention here is to make a difference and to bring positive change into our culture.

With all Hashtags, they may be effective, or not. They may be #activism or #slacktivism. But what is really important in the situation of all these Hashtags and others is how YOU use it.

Your fingers are the one typing on the keyboard.
Your head is where all the intentions are made.
Your decisions are what makes a campaign successful or not.

That's all from moi today....

Bow down to your Queen.

Peace out Little ones.
