Social Media and Romantic Relationships

Back to our good old days when social media was not a thing, life was much easier and more romantic since people expressed their emotion interactively to each other. Among the relationship between two people, what they could do were holding their hands, chatting face-to-face, looking into each other's eyes, etc. Until advanced technology steps into our lives,  we are more likely to have your face looking in front of the screen and we forget what social contact is meant to be. In overall, the article that I read gave me a greater look at the depth of the situation to see where it goes. And INDEED, it surprised me A LOT. I thought it wasn't a huge problem at all, but I guess I just failed judging people.
The article assesses the issue by comparing both Boys and Girls' perspective towards the idea of using social media as a mean of expressing emotion.

"Some 65% of boys with relationship experience who use social media agree that these sites make them feel more connected about what’s going on in their significant other’s life (compared with 52% of girls). Similarly 50% of boys say social media makes them feel more emotionally connected with their significant other, compared with 37% of girls..."

I thought girls are more emotionally involved than boys are. I'm kind of understand why we boys do that, just because talking unstoppably is more of a girl than of a boy. Girls think that those cool but imperturbable boys give them a sense of security. So that can be a possibility explaining why boys do what they do. Other reason can be like because boys are SHY... That doesn't look right, lol!!

“I think texting kind of makes you feel closer because – boys are more shy. I’m more shy, but … my boyfriend, he doesn’t like to express himself like that. But when we text, it seems like it’s so much easier for him to talk to me. So I think he says more stuff, like how he feels through text. So it kind of makes [the relationship] stronger.”

ME: It's easier because he has more time to think of words to say and stuff to tell you. When facing real situation, he cannot manage to process those thought in his head as fast as he can when texting. And you are shy too. So one of you must stand up to be the protagonist, especially you guys are in love! Or because of something else that i don't want to tell you. It might upset you...!

I just don't understand why people like to have "unreal" conversation. There can be misunderstanding which leads to a broken-up of a relationship EASILY. Moreover, they are expert English speakers, so why don't you all sit down and talk like English? And I'm not going to talk about texting modern languages, because by d nd of d day, u will b havn trouble reading my ppgrph, n ur brain hrtz. So do u wnt me 2 wrte like dis 4ever. It's ez 2 read tho! Nah, I think I should stop!!

Back to our topic...! In my own experiences, I had troubles communicating to my girlfriend since we didn't see each other face to face. Sometimes, she turned sulky just because she misunderstood my sentences. What I'm saying is that in order to avoid those misunderstandings, we have to make social contact and use social media as a mean to communicate when you are at home. Spending more time talking in person directly is way better than looking on the screen and punching the keyboard. And obviously, talking is indeed the cure of shyness and unapproachability. So TALK MORE!

Social Media and Relationships can be dissected into multiple topics. In this blog, I only discussed about one or few troubles influenced by misusing social media. The following video gives you a brief description of other troubles might occur. Enjoy!
