The chosen one..The boy who lived...Harry potter. Whatever you may choose to call him doesn't matter. You still know who he is. You know who played the character, and you've probably heard of the books. Therefore, the name Daniel Radcliffe must be familiar (woahhhh hes so famous his name autocorrects).
This young man (see below) has a net worth of $110 million. Just take a moment and let that sink in....$110 million holy cow.
He is one of the wealthiest young men in Britain and is best-known for his roles in the wildly successful Harry Potter films.
So generally most of us would assume that he has an enormous worldwide fan base (#potterheadforlife), which he does but what about a social media fanbase? I recently came across an article on Buzzfeed (obviously while procrastinating doing these blog posts) about how Daniel (Him and I are also on first name bases duh) doesn't have any social media platforms excepttttt.... GOOGLE+. I REPEAT GOOGLE+
For those of you who don't know how this google+ situation works, well http://www.androidcentral.com says it better than i can.
Daniel has over 83,882,926 views on his google+ page, Thats insane. Buttttt, he gets asked quite alot "so what social media sites are you one?" or "hey! whats your snapchat?" to which he simply replies "i don't use those".
In an interview with Maron he stated this “I never hear somebody talking about it who’s happy about it. I never hear somebody saying, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to check my Twitter!’….It’s not, like, an act of social rebellion. Like, I don’t give a shit if you have Twitter. I don’t have strong feelings about it. As long as you’re not being a dick, you can do anything you like. But, like, the other day somebody said to me… they were talking about Snapchat, and they were like, ‘How can you not have Snapchat?’ and I was like, ‘I just don’t have it!’”
This may seem like a normal answer, but when you think of it hes a multimillionaire movie star and doesnt use popular social media bases. This got me thinking about how most celebrities rely on their internet fanbase for promoting new projects, sponsorships and more. In fact many of them use it as a source of income, which isn't a bad thing at all.
It's the impact a single post can have upon a celebrity's career and life. They have to be very careful in what they say and sometimes speaking their mind can get them into trouble. Then again it can also be used to spread goodness around the world. For example viral campaigns, hashtags, awareness about issues etc.
But do they need social media to be successful is the question. Many celebrities totally disregard the social media situation and still have amazing careers, with world changing accomplishments. Yet people are still disappointed and upset they don't get to "follow" or "like" them. Guys, chill let them live their goddamn amazing lives jeez.
Even in day to day life of an average teenager there's a constant pressure to be up to date with the latest apps and trends. Something i have never followed. The only social media i posses is Facebook and well my email (idk does email count lol) but doesn't mean I' m outta the loop on anything. I still like to think i have a decent social life and don't act like I live under a rock, plus I'm doing everything else a regular 16 year old girl would do. Just cause i dont have snapchat or instagram make me any different right? You get what i mean?
Back to Daniel and his Google+ account LOL. This is where he shares day to day activities, helps promo his work and others and even shows his support during sad times. (check out his page here) Yet hes still one of the biggest star to be alive, LIKE PLEASE GUYS HES HARRY POTTER FOR GOODNESS SAKE. I think the part which confuses people is the fact that he uses Google+ an out of the ordinary social media (if you count it as one). I guess its time for us muggles to jump on that bangwagon.
SO you go Daniel, Embrace that googlyness
