Internet Addiction: An Addiction to the Internet

Internet addiction is an addiction to the internet. Tautology aside, internet addiction is often seen as a worrying and dangerous thing, to be so dependent on the internet that you can't fathom life without it, that you get cold sweats when you aren't on that wifi high, that your hands shake when you think about your next Netflix fix, or that you would do literally anything to get some of that Buzzfeed buzz.

Internet addiction is so incredibly common that there is now a disorder named for it. This is known as Problematic Internet Use (PIU), Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD), Compulsive Internet Use (CIU), and other names not cool enough to get an abbreviation. Seems pretty serious, to be on a device that can connect to wifi so much that you interfere with your daily life. 2060: The gregarious superintelligent AI, happily talking its way out of a box, is fast becoming a relic of the past. Today's quantum hyper-beings are too busy with their internal multiverse sims to even notice that they're in boxes at all!
Personally, I'm not sure it is really that serious, especially compared to more drug related addictions like, cocaine or cough syrup.
