Are we using the Internet, or is the Internet using us?

I know you are probably thinking, 'Hell yea, we are using the Internet. How can the Internet use us?'

It is not that simple. There are multiple different view points that you can look through to find a solution. There are social media creators' view points. There are Internet users' view points. And there are old people's view point.

Of course there are benefits of having Internet access. But when there are benefits, there are always be negative aspects.

Many people use Internet to connect with other people easily through social media, such as, Facebook, Twitter, or Skype. It is true that social media allows people to connect with each other and share their lives. But the creators nowadays uses this accessibility to make money.

You know when you make an account and they tell you to update your personal information? When you put your information on there, they will use that information to sort out what kind of advertisements will catch your eyes and make you click that ad. It is sometimes scary when you go on the Internet and see exactly what you were looking for without actually searching it through the Internet. Some of the web sites who doesn't care about privacy. They would sell your personal information to make money off of you. For them you only worth couple of dollars.


With that said, lets talk about good side of the Internet. Internet makes us happy. Internet help us to be happy. Internet opens paths for people to benefit from.

Through Internet people can do EVERYTHING. People can study from it (Khan Academy). People can share their skills in sports, so that they can get scholarships (Hudl). They also could learn how to build a car through YouTube how-to videos.

With connection to billions of people, a group can raise awareness of unique diseases. Do you remember ALS Ice Bucket Challenge? It was a HUGE thing back then. With that, the association was able to raise awareness and also raise money to fund research groups for cure.

When you see from multiple perspective of this problem it is very difficult to come to conclusion. You just have to control yourself and understand what might be the consequences of your action in the Internet.
